Drink Coasters

Fun and Easy Ways to Make a Personalized Cork Drink Coaster

Cork drink coasters are not only decorative in kitchen and dining tables but they also serve as wonderful gifts during special occasions as well. What if you can easily make cork drink coasters at home during weekends or long holidays? You can do them yourself and spare your pockets from spending dollars by ordering online. All you need is stretch some of those creativity and stuff lying around.

What You Need

For this project, you will need cut-outs, print-outs, photos, magazines, or any design which you want in your coasters. How many depends on the number of coasters you intend to make. You will also need a cork sheet similar to those used as bulletin boards. The thickness depends on how thick you want your coasters to be. Throw in some scissors, cutters, PVA glue, pencils, varnish/ sealant, and coloring materials to start your project.

What to Do

1. Make a pattern by tracing the bottom of a large glass, a soup can, or whatever shape you fancy for your cork drink coasters. Just ensure that an average-sized glass or mug can stand in it comfortably. Draw the patterns as close together as possible to get the most out of your cork sheet. Alternatively, you can leave a bit of space in between the patterns if you're not that skilled in cutting.

2. Cut along the pattern lines carefully by following your trace drawings. Use cutters for tight corners and scissors if you intend to have rounded tips. Make sure that your cutter and scissors are sharp to avoid uneven lines in the cork. Alternatively, you can just buy pre-cut cork sheets in hardware or craft stores.
